What types of personal data is collected?
Our site's order form
requires users to give us contact information (like their name, email address, mailing
address, billing address). We use customer contact information from the form
to send the customer their product. The customer's contact information is also
used to contact the visitor when necessary. Users may opt-out of receiving
future mailings; see the choice/opt-out section below. Users may also opt-out
of being in our customer database; see the choice/opt-out section below.
The following discloses
our information gathering and dissemination practices for this website: This is
really quite simple. I'm a research scientist in the field of behavioral
statistics. I'm not really much of a web designer. If you visit our
on-line store and decide to click on an item to either make a purchase or find
out additional information, a cookie may be placed on your machine.
These are minimal cookies used so dbS Productions may receive a commission from
items bought. Think of it as a bland simple cookie that will simply
disappear if left alone. I still don't know how to make a cookie myself.
So if you stay on our site you will see no cookies. I still would much
rather eat cookies than put them on other people's sites. I mean how rude.
My website statistics
does allow me to record the last 20 IP addresses that have visited my
site. These IP addresses are not recorded. In fact, it is rare to
even look at this. We also will record you IP address if you submit a form to
our site. We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, and
to administer our Web site. Your IP address is also used to gather broad
demographic information. Unless, you have a unique IP address I have no way (or
desire) to link you as a unique person to your IP. I also collect
statistics on web browser, operating system, domain (com, net, gov, etc), and country.
However, these are not tied to any unique person.
Our site offers a free
subscription to a newsletter called SARNEWS. For the newsletter we
collect subscribers name and email address. We also offer an
opt-in box to subscribe on our order form. Users may opt-out or unsubscribe of
receiving future mailings; see the choice/opt-out section below.
This site contains links
to other sites. dbS Productions LLC is
not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such Web
sites. However, please contact us if you have any problems with a site.
Our online surveys ask
visitors for contact information (like their email address and name). We use contact data from our surveys to
send the user information about our company. The customer's contact information
is also used to contact the visitor when necessary. Users may opt-out of
receiving future mailings; see the choice/opt-out section below.
We run contests on our
site in which we ask visitors for contact information (like their email address and name). We use contact
data from our contests to send users information about our company. Users may
opt-out of receiving future mailings; see the choice/opt-out section below.
If you wish to submit
data to the International Search and Rescue Incident Database (ISRID) we will
collect the following information; the name
of the person responsible for the data, the organization that collected the data, a work telephone number, and a work
email address. The ISRID database does not contain any of the privacy
fields specified as restricted in limited data sets under 45 CFR §164.514(e). The
ISRID database does not contain any Sensitive Personal Identifying Information
(PII) as specified by DHS Handbook for Safeguarding Sensitive personally
Identifiable Information March 2012. The ISRID database is stored following
practices outlined in the DHS Handbook for Safeguarding Sensitive personally
Identifiable Information March 2012.
We offer APPs that may
be purchased through Google's PlayStore and Apple AppStore. The PlayStore
and AppStore collects basic information spelled out in its privacy agreement in
order to complete the transaction. Both the PlayStore and AppStore have
dashboards which allow dbS to view aggregated data about number of sales,
countries, returns, crash statistics etc.
However, no personally identifiable information is passed along to us. The APPs do not require any registration with
dbS servers. The APPs do have a support link where users may choose to email
dbS for support. This
results in an email with the email
address being provided to dbS and its contract support team. If the
customer chooses they often also provide a name in the email (although this is
not required). The email is kept to
provide the required support and for future data analysis.
In order to purchase a license
of the FIND software, the user must first register online. They will be required to provide a name, organization name, email
address, address, and phone number. This information is used to provide services,
contact the user if required, provide support to the user, and manage the
subscription. If they decide to purchase a license then financial information
required to complete the transaction is collected.
If you call us on the
phone we will typically ask for your name
and telephone number. We may also ask for an email address. If you wish to make a purchase we will ask
for either a purchase order or a credit
card number along with shipping and billing address. We use this
information in order to fulfill your order. This information will be entered
into our customer database.
If you send us an email,
we will archive the email for future reference. The email will contain whatever
information was supplied by the customer.
Does
dbS have any subsidiaries?
No.

Sensitive Information
This website does not
collect any sensitive information (i.e. personal information specifying medical
or health conditions, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or
philosophical beliefs, etc.). In all cases our web site requires you to
opt-in versus forcing you to find the little box to opt-out.
Onward Transfer
We will not rent, sell,
or disclose information to a third party. It’s that simple. If required we will
share data with our technical support team or contractors to resolve any
customer’s issues. However, this is the same as keeping the data in-house. In
the context of liability for the actions of agent processors does not apply
because dbS will not transfer personal information to third parties.
In regards to the data
found in ISRID, the raw data contributed to the database will not be rented or
sold. However, this does not limit ISRID
from licensing summary or compilation data or other products derived from the
data. dbS will respond to inquiries by qualified
researchers, with a developed methodology, who are able to sign a
non-disclosure agreement (NDA) which would limit the development of competing
commercial products or violate any aspects of this privacy agreement. However, in no case will personally
identifiable information be provided to qualified researchers. The contributing
data organization contact will not be disclosed without their expressed
permission.
Security
This site has security
measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and unauthorized access,
disclosure, alteration and destruction of the information under our
control. We use firewalls, encryption, hard secure passwords (a real pain
to remember), and other prudent measures. At this time we do not collect
any sensitive data (as defined by the US Department of Commerce). Not quite NSA
standards but we try hard.
Data Integrity
Personal information
will only be processed in a way that is compatible with the purposes for which
it has been collected or subsequently authorized by the individual. We
take reasonable steps to ensure that data is reliable for its intended use,
accurate, complete, and current.
Independent Dispute Resolution
In
compliance with the Privacy Shield Principles, dbS commits to resolve
complaints about our collection or use of your personal information. European Union and/or Swiss, individuals with
inquiries or complaints regarding our Privacy Shield policy should first
contact dbS using the contact information provided under inquiries or
complaints. We are obligated to respond to you within 45 days.
dbS has further committed to refer
unresolved Privacy Shield complaints to JAMS, an alternative dispute resolution
provider located in the United States. If you do not receive timely
acknowledgment of your complaint from us, or if we have not resolved your
complaint, please contact or visit JAMS for more information or to file a
complaint. The services of JAMS are
provided at no cost to you. The link you will require is:

Invoking
binding arbitration
An
individual has the possibility, under certain conditions, to invoke binding
arbitration for complaints regarding privacy Shield compliance not resolved by
any of the other Privacy Shield mechanisms (the first is contacting dbS
directly). The following link is
provided for additional information:

Enforcement
The Federal Trade Commission has
jurisdiction over dbS’s compliance with the Privacy Shield.
AND/OR
The Department of Transportation has
jurisdiction over dbS’s compliance with the Privacy Shield.
Law Enforcement
dbS may be required to
disclose personal information in response to lawful requests by public
authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement
requirements. The EU Court of Justice doesn’t like this fact, so don’t share
any information with dbS if you are worried about law enforcement.
California Online Privacy Protection Act
CalOPPA is
the first state law in the nation to require commercial websites and online
services to post a privacy policy. The law's reach stretches well beyond
California to require a person or company in the United States (and conceivably
the world since it thinks it is that important) that operates websites
collecting personally identifiable information from California consumers to
post a conspicuous privacy policy on its website stating exactly the
information being collected and those individuals with whom it is being shared,
and to comply with this policy. - See more at: https://consumercal.org/about-cfc/cfc-education-foundation/california-online-privacy-protection-act-caloppa-3/

How does our site handle do not track signals?
We honor do not track
signals and do not track, plant cookies, or use advertising when a Do Not Track
(DNT) browser mechanism is in place.
Does our site allow
third-party behavioral tracking?
It's also important to
note that we do not allow third-party behavioral tracking
COPPA (Children Online
Privacy Protection Act)
When it comes to the collection of personal
information from children under 13, the Children's Online Privacy Protection
Act (COPPA) puts parents in control. The Federal Trade Commission, the nation's
consumer protection agency, enforces the COPPA Rule, which spells out what
operators of websites and online services must do to protect children's privacy
and safety online.
We do not specifically
market to children under 13.
